- I developed my love for gardening from my dad. As far as being pretty darned good, that's debatable. I've been doing it long enough to be really good. I have a lot of trial and error. I love the process of watching the end results of what I have planted. My husband and I are retired and live at Sugar Valley Lakes in Mound City, Kansas. The soil down here sits on a bed of rock. I have to be careful what and where I plant. I enjoy your helpful hints.
